I use my 1924-vintage 3" Long Range Ideal grade exclusively for ducks and geese. My load of choice is 28 grains Longshot pushing an ounce of #2 Nice Shot, AA wads, AA hulls. Estimated 1250fps. Easy on the gun, easy on the shooter, and kills them deader than dead. No need on God's green earth for murderous 3" magnum loads, IMO. The macho types in my group who shoot 3" and 3½" loads walk around with nervous tics and flinch when a door slams, or so it seems. That's not for me. The tight chokes found in our LRG's guarantee dense patterns with relatively light loads of soft non-toxic shot, allowing them to live up to their 90 year old reputations for being waterfowl killing machines.
