    It is not a Smith gun, but a gun made by Baker Gun Company, under their patents, and marketed under the New Era "trade name". Baker marketed double guns under several "trade name", of which "New Era" is probably the most common (these guns were retailed by Simmons Hardware and other large sporting goods dealers). You will also find the ocassional New Era marked gun made by the Syracuse Arms Company. The SAC gun looks very similar to the Baker box-lock gun at first glance, but utilize the Hollenbeck patents for the cocking and bolting mechanisms.
