Gentlemen. Brophy's estimates of Syracuse guns both Hammer and Hammerless were very sketchy at beat. Through the LCSCA data base we have been able to estimate with a high degree of accuracy that there were about 6000 Hammer guns manufactured in Syracuse and 5500 hammerless guns. This estimate is based on an examination of the separate and distinct serial number blocks assigned to hammer and hammerless guns during this period and the distribution ( low, middle & high numbers) of knowned guns within each serial number block. We plan to publish this new information in a future issue of the collectors newsletter. John Houchins
