    According to Brophy's book the first hammerless gun was produced in 1886. During the first year 281 were sold with 15 returned for credit. Net sales totaled 266 hammerless guns the first year.
    There is a Quality 2 10 ga. Syracuse gun in his book with the serial no. of 18,974, and a Quality 2 12 ga. serial no. 16,271. So you can see how the serial numbers range. They built 6,223 hammer and hammerless guns from 1880-1887, so if the hammerless gun came out in 1886, I would venture to say that yours in in this time frame of 1886-87
