I have a 1898 Damascus gun. I had it inspect by a good gunsmith familiar with double guns and Damascus guns. I reload and shoot lower pressure shells. Shot this gun a couple of years ago at the Southern SxS. Also used it dove hunting. Put it on paper and I am of the opinion that the lower pressure reloads - with lower velocity - were also giving better more consistent patterns at least in this gun.
