    There are different schools of thought on this subject.I will offer what has worked well for me and some other folks.Cones that have been cut longer reduce recoil and stock wear.Some shops cut them anywhere from 2.00 to 4.00 long.The 2.00 length has worked well for me in my Smith guns.I have cut my 12,16, and 20s the same.It is important to get a good smooth finish and keep the new cut surfaces well oiled.Good luck,I'm sure you will like the improvement this will make.Charlie.
