Jeb & David, The late 40's 20 gage gun you write about may not have Marlin proof steel barrels. The only guns made by Marlin were 12 gage. You may have a gun put together from parts brought from Fulton to New Haven by Marlin. Thus, if this is so, the barrels would be standard Smith barrels.
