Michael, apparently this was not unusual, if you check the early A2 numbers in Brophy's book you will see several numbers with different shipping dates;
#587, 589, 731, 984, 1645. 1683, 1937, 1945, 1991, 2005, 2197, 2268, 2407 (3 times) so on. I wonder if they could have been display guns at some exposition? it would be interesting to see if the date correspond with large shows or trade fairs.
