    Hello David,
28" barrels were a factory product, but thats not to say that they didn't leave the factory at 30" and were cut down at some point in their life. A good gunsmith could mic. the inside of the barrel ends and tell you if the chokes looked normal length or if they looked shortened by cutting. Do you know if the barrels have ever been re-blued? The reason I ask is that if they had been, the person who did the work may have inadvertantly carded off part of the word STEEL. Your barrels were likely originally marked ARMOR STEEL, as that was one of the fluid steel options that L.C. Smith used in lieu of Damascus. If you intend to shoot the old gal, you're better off with the Armor Steel. Also, if you intend to shoot the gun, you'd be well advised to have it gone over by a competent double gunsmith for safety and maintenance purposes. If you will post where you're from maybe Revdocdrew will chime in and let you know where the closest qualified smith resides.
Take care, and if you have intentions of bringing her back into the game, you ought to join the LCSCA.
