Drew. For what its worth, please see page 380 in the new L.C.Smith Book. I have pictures of all grades of Damascus except Very Fine. They were taken from actual graded guns with the corresponding descriptions from period catalogs for the particular grade of damascus in question. I have a picture on page 76 of a quality A hammer gun that has "Very Fine" damascus barrels but I could not tell the difference between it and my Quality 6 Syracuse hammerless which had "Finest" quality damascus. Note! L.C.Smith damascus barrels are primarily from English Mfg's with the exception of Chain that came from Belgian sources. Fine and exotic patterns that the Belgian's specialized in do not and I repeat do not equate necessarily with quality. See the Birmingham Proof test. Respectfully, John Houchins
