L.C. Smith and low pressure loads Archived Message

    Gentlemen:

I am in the process of buying an L.C. Smith Field grade 12 gauge. The current owner urged me to use low pressure loads in the gun. In your opinions, is this a mandatory thing? The gun was made in 1929 according to your site/serial number.

Another question I had was about length of pull. The gun currently has a 13 1/4" L.O.P. I shoot 14 1/2" L.O.P. What are your recommendations on changing that to fit me? Something temporary or permanant...

Lastly, the gun is choked full/full. I would like it choked skeet1/full. Would having a competent gunsmith bore out the right barrel be a no no?

Keep in mind with your answers that this is a Field Grade and does not have the original forend. I don't know that it would be considered a collector's item, but instead, more of a shooter.

Your thoughts are respected in the highest.

    Regards,

    Jon Osborn
