Restoration is an expensive business which is full of hidden(literally) problems. A hands on examination of the "patient" is most strongly advised as is an on site visit to the restorer. There are any number of folks who do great work, the Rev., Dr. Drew has listed a goodly number. I would hope your estimate of $2,000.00 could be met. I would not be surprised to see it double however especially if the engraving/checkering needs to be "freshened". Remember that in prepping the metal or the wood some detail will probably be "partially erased". Finally re-color case hardening is always a risk-the entire piece may fracture in the quench. Personally I would advise making haste SLOWLY! Good Luck, Dr. BILL
