    Carl, David gave you very good advice. The amount of restoration is governed by the depth of your pockets and probably will not be recoupable in this generation. With that said, you can do most anything you wish. I'd suggest first doing a bit of reading to learn what is out there and the cost. Next I'd suggest working with someone close to home so that you could actually see their work and get a "feel" for the person you are entrusting your family heirloom too. Finally if you have it done by a professional, insist on a written agreement that covers work to be done, costs, and a time frame. Good luck and Merry Christmas. Dr. Bill
