    Carl, it's nice that you want to bring your Dad's gun up to as new. If you are going to keep the gun for yourself and possibly other generations that is great. From the year you are stating, your Dad's gun is a Marlin era gun (L.C. Smith Gun Company). The serial number should have a prefix of FW Sxxxxx. These guns aren't in great demand compared to the older ones, so in restoring keep that in mind. It might cost you a lot more than what the gun is worth to restore it.
    If you post the area in which you live, I'm sure you will get responses as to who is good in your area doing these things you want done.
