David: If Tom Maxwell happened to make my later Leonard, I would say that it was arguably a better rod than the early variants. The price would certainly reflect that reality.

I happen to own some older Leonards (an early Model 66, a Model 50 1/2, and a Model 51). The oldest one (the 51) is not the superior rod in the group.
