Just found that "total production" number in Houchins book. On page 519 he says that 500,710 guns total were made (all makers and all types). I was going to say "half a million" earlier here but I wanted keep from being too-speculative.

Compare that to the miniscule numbers of guns that were completed in Syracuse (Houchins says 6,223, which includes both hammered & hammerless guns) and you get a sense of just how unusual a true "Syracuse" LC Smith gun really is.
