As to your second paragraph, Hunter Arms had no idea of what to produce so they followed what was sent and went from there and in the stipulation between Lyman and John Hunter, the guns had to be called L.C. Smith. As for the latter years, changes had to be made because of cost and the "nice" features had to go.
Would you take a latter made Leonard Baby Catskill 7 ft. 3 wgt. over an original one and say "well it is the same rod", same color windings etc."? Not the same.
