Re: Shooting Damascus or Twist Barrels in Tournaments
Charlie, thanks for the reply. I assumed people did shoot Damascus and Twist barreled guns at these events, but I was just wanting confirmation. I have went to shoots (not SxS specific) and got lectures about Twist guns being dangerous to shoot. I did not want to spend the time and effort traveling to one of these shoots just to be told I couldn't shoot the gun. The barrels look pristine with just a couple of minor very very shallow dark areas in the chamber area that I cannot even feel when I rub my fingers over them. The gun has not been restored or refinished and you can tell it has not been shot much during it's life. I don't shoot it a lot, and when I do all I use is RST 2 1/2" Lite Loads. I am confident the gun is safe with appropriate loads. I would not be opposed to having it looked at by a gunsmith knowledgeable about SxS's if I knew of any in my area. Honestly I seem to know more about old SxS shotguns than any of the local gunsmiths I have spoken to. If anyone knows of a competent SxS gunsmith in the Louisville Kentucky area, please let me know. Thanks......Richard
