Sort of. It's usually for weddings, funerals and naming ceremonies. It's a completely personalised ceremony from discussions with couples/family, officiated by the celebrant, who writes the script.

I've been to one funeral and wedding, and they were easily the most memorable.

I’m on a zoom seminar tomorrow and Thursday to find out more about training to be one.

Agree totally.

It's a heartfelt celebration of the deceased, rather than an advert for a cult.

I remember someone saying they went to a religious funeral and it was over 30 minutes before the deceased was mentioned.

This. I went to my mate's dad's funeral a couple of years ago, and if I hadn't known a lot of faces, I'd have been none the wiser I was even at the right ceremony. I find it astonishing that the last words said at a huge gathering of friends and loved ones is 25 minutes of psalms, passages, flocks of sheep and three wise men, but nothing about the human being in the box.

Contrast that with a mate's service 4 years ago, which was a double session of an hour, read by a humanist, and it was night and day. It was incredibly emotional, and not a dry eye in the house. A stunning tribute including two long eulogies.

When I go, the religious type will happen over my dead body. Oh ang on...

Each to their own and I'm glad there are options

Personally I much prefer old school requiems and mourning
Everyone knows the drill and it's cathartic
- curtains closed front of the house
- whole family in black
- mass with incense over the coffin
- graveside prayer
- shake hands. Subdued "thanks for coming etc etc"
- retire to parish club for spread and free bar

How it goes in our family and if it wasn't like that would feel like unfinished business. There's a mourning bit that has to be got through.

Which isn't to say we dont celebrate the life of the deceased but that's more at the wake or the do in the club

It feels completely impersonal that. It's more about religion than the person, and I don't for the life of me understand it.

Might be that's what I like about it, the fact that my Dad's funeral was just like my Nan's and my grandad's and other family members. And then it was his turn. I think that's what I found cathartic about it. Everyone whatever they did in life ending the same way.

As I say just my thoughts and if other people want/need something different glad that it's available.

It was beautifully done as well.

I went to a service at Springwood Crematorium that Brian Nash did . He was very good and I would recommend him too

That's pretty much me. I'm wanting to take the plunge instead of being found dead on my desk through loss of will to live.

They’re all supposed to charge the same amount for funerals. Celebrants, priests, vicars, rabbis, etc. £234 iirc

Quite pleasing that they’ve come to that arrangement

Think it's around 8-10 hours work for a funeral and 20-30 for a wedding, so not quite that easy!

The marriages are not legal either. I went to a mates one a few years ago and I was astounded to hear they'd actually got married 6 months earlier in a registry office.
