This. I went to my mate's dad's funeral a couple of years ago, and if I hadn't known a lot of faces, I'd have been none the wiser I was even at the right ceremony. I find it astonishing that the last words said at a huge gathering of friends and loved ones is 25 minutes of psalms, passages, flocks of sheep and three wise men, but nothing about the human being in the box. Contrast that with a mate's service 4 years ago, which was a double session of an hour, read by a humanist, and it was night and day. It was incredibly emotional, and not a dry eye in the house. A stunning tribute including two long eulogies. When I go, the religious type will happen over my dead body. Oh ang on...
