*** I think Smith is a definite, but they need to work on his mental side. Looked absolutely terrified in this innings
* Crawley has a decent average of 43 against Aussies, though only 27 in Oz. His overall test average of 32 at this level seems to be where he's at. That's probably not good enough, but on his day he can do it, and he has a good partnership with Duckett, which showed some real glimpses of a quality start in this series. Probably too late to break this partnership up?
** I can't get away with Pope. Another with an average on the low side - 35. Averaged 34 this series which was only 12th highest in a series dominated by batting. There are are a few stats which really worry me about him as a player. Although he averages 35.36, there is a huge drop off between first and second innings, averaging 46.69 in the first and 19.8 in the second. There will always be a natural drop off as wickets deteriorate, but that's off a cliff. His averages also tail off at the end of series, averaging 36, 31, 37, 29 and 13.5 in the fifth. His record against the Aussies is really poor. 15.7 in 10 innings, with 11.16 in 6 innings down under. He might get one century, but I think he will be a liability. Who could replace him?
**** Bashir looks like a lamb to the slaughter, and Dawson is nothing more than capably tight who can bat a bit. What's John Embury doing these days?
Need back up for Stokes and Archer, as I can't see them lasting 5 full on tests.
