I am trying to locate ELizabeth Ann Jones Pope's mother's first and last name and dates of birth of all of them. I optained Elizabeth's marriage record to John Ratcliff in 1844. She was not quite full age at the time of marriage. Her father, James Pope was listed as a Stone Mason. Any information would be great.

Could her mother have been a Jones? very common to incorporate mothers surname into childrens. Will look a bit more.

James Pope married Grace Jones 29.8.1818 Tiverton , no family names as witnesses.
He was a mason, so could have worked anywhere.

I looked on genuki site, and there is a link to list of baptisms, and dates, one in 1792 one 1799, so the second one might be James. also found a marriage John Pope married Mary French 1792, so that might be his parents. looked on tithe maps for Shute, but no Pope names listed, but does not mean they weren't there, as some entries refer to "others", there is also a baptism for JOhn Pope born 1767, mother Mary pope, so might be illigit.
Other local parishes would be Axminster, Honiton, Yarcombe.

a Mary French baptised Axminster 1766 daughter of John and Mary.

wow, I am impressed with your research. And you have no idea, how long I've been looking for this information. it is very helpful. I have ordered many records from GRO and scotland people.

Thankyou, we have been searching for 30 years!! so have a few places on line to try , Of course actual records are the key. Genuki site is useful for the parish, whether details are on family search.org or in the record office. National archives also good, just the name and years can sometimes pick up something, even a surname if uncommon.

James Pope married 25.03.1818. Upton Pyne (St.Thomas
reg. district) Grace Loosemore. 1851 shows James Pope born Shute, with Grace born Plymouth. James Pope born 05.01.1799. bapt. 26.01.1799. Shute (Axminster), son of John and Mary. Grace bapt. 08.10.1797. Upton Pyne.?? dau. of Edwin and Margaret.

thank you Sally. I am working to get this right. There are two Grace's. One is Loosemore and the other one is Leity. I am hoping Loosemore is the correct one. I appreciate you taking the time to help out.

according to census data she was from Barnstaple, Devon and lived in Swansea, Glamorgan in 1846.

Find My Past have an Elizabeth Ann Pope b. 1826, baptised 8 January 1826 at Barnstaple, St. Peter. Father James Pope, a Mason, mother Grace, of Litchdon Street, Barnstaple. Only a transcription, no image of the Baptism Register.

There are other possibilities, ( 1 x Elizabeth Ann Pope) and several Elizabeth Pope, all about 1824 - 1826.

However, none fit all of your details, and this one is the only one having a father, James, a Mason.
