'Long' family around Exeter

Hi,
I am looking for any information about the "Long" family name in and around Exeter, Devon.
Through my own research I have found Sammuel Long(1777-1862)/Eleanor Evans (1777-1850), son James Long (1813-1861)/ Elizabeth Wills (1816-1882).

James Long died quite young (at least by todays standards) but cannot find any info on how?

His wife Elizabeth most definitely came to Sydney, Australia, aboard the Ida. Left from Plymouth late 1863, arrived Sydney early 1864.
I have been to her gravesite on the clifftops of Sydney eastern suburbs.
I believe her son George Long (abt.1850-1928) was born in Devon, but cannot work out a year. Some of my sources put DOB as 1847, other 1853?
Would like to confirm his DOB.
For context, George is my 2nd great grand father.

Any help is appreciated, writing to you on a cold Melbourne winters day.

Did George join the Royal Marines? come back to UK? check out the 1891 census, there is a George Long born Exeter there with wife and family?

No, I dont believe so. He is also buried in Sydney with his wife Amelia. I have not been to the grave site, but have seen a photo.

This looks like James's death certificate, again you can order from the GRO

Am I correct in assuming that George Wills Long means that his middle name is his mothers maiden name?
Or is this just recorded on the entry for record keeping purposes?

No, that’s just an artefact of copy and paste! GRO shows the names as George Long, then the mother’s maiden name Wills.

1850 August 22nd George Long son of James & Elizabeth

(abode) Blackmores Buildings North Street (fathers occupation) Tailor

The General Register Office has the following entry for James' death certificate

1861 March Quarter Exeter Vol 5b Page 77 age 47

This will give you the exact date, place, cause of death & informant.

Freecen has the family in 1851, George had 7 older siblings, do you have them? did they go to Australia?

Brother Charles married an Amelia, buried Exeter, she died 26.7.1887, so they must have stayed here.

Yes, have his siblings. I have a copy of Elizabeth's immigration to Sydney in 1864, she came with 4 of her children including George.
From the papers I can see their contact in the 'colony' was two of the older siblings. Neither of which were Charles, so it seems he may have stayed in England.
