If any apprenticeship records have survived then you need to be looking at Apprenticeship Parish Records for the Parish he was born in, the Parish he is shown as living in whilst an apprentice and the parish of the person he was apprenticed to. If it was a private not parish apprenticeship then it would be unlikely that any Indentures have survived as copies would be help between both parties. You could try search Devon Heritage Online Catalogue to see if anything comes up for names of people involved, might also be worth checking for any Bastardy records as well
