I had always thought that the anointing was the most personal and 'private' part of the service. I suppose what yesterday's broadcast taught me was the very highly religious nature of the event. Religious in a way that we in the Presbyterian Kirk have no idea of. There was something beyond the usual C of E services. Ideas of sacrament, sacrifice and dedication with pre-Christian roots. We are lucky to have such an event. I believe much more than I did that it ought to be preserved as it was. The secularists and other religions can have other services or occasions. This represents a big change in my ideas of what should happen next time.
