Re: Coronation Thanksgivings

Here is my opinion from a Scottish point of view. In regards to the Thanksgiving Service at St. Giles Cathedral in 1953 my mother remembers how disappointed she and her friends were that the Queen 'didn't dress up, but wore a simple blue coat and hat.' What offended my mother the most was 'She carried a handbag when they presented her the crown!' My mother was in one of the choirs that performed during the service. The Queen's outfit caused a lot of disappointment and offence. A lot of Scots felt that once again Scotland had been slighted by the establishment south of the border. In hindsight a lot of things could have been done differently. Regardless of whether we have independence or not those planning events for the next crowning will have to consider carefully what they plan for Scotland.
