Johan - I think you are right about straps.
I have since thought that the Jacket could have been "reinforced" if the robe was heavy.
There would need to be a special structure inside the jacket to control the pull of the weight.
I did notice that the jacket was not buttoned, so there had to be more than the eye could see.
