At one time on US PBS, there was a program about Queen Elizabeth II and one of her chosen ladies to attend the Queen and carry her robe at the Coronation, had an anecdote. At the rehearsal the day before the actual Coronation, the Queen and her attendant women were assembled with the Archbishop and everyone was very nervous and on edge including the Queen. Finally the Archbishop said to the young women, "I think it would do for all of us, if we all had a little snort of something before starting." So they all had a glass of brandy and the rehearsal went off beautifully.
I've read that the unfortunate lady who accidently dropped her coronet in the loo was the Countess of Athlone, which prompted her daughter to state, " Oh Mother, what are we going to do!" I don't know if this story is true.
