I first discovered them, as well as WSBC and WCFJ, in the late 90s. It during one of multiple, South Asian (Indo Pak) shows. So, wasn't WCFJ also like WNDZ (Christian/relglious), when they debuted on 1470, in the late 80s?
The programming on all 3 stations was great, in the early years of Newsweb/Access Radio. All kinds of shows were on. I mean, all kinds. I cannot believe that was 20-25 years ago today.
I do remember LGBT content (which would fit really well today), as well as that sports show. I think that was on in the late morning. I remember the Russian "Lunchtime Radio," followed at 12 noon.
That slot today is "Italian Radio Theater." 11 AM-12 Noon (which was on 1430 for a while, in the afternoon, on weekdays). I remember in early 2009, the sports show was gone.
What about Neil Tesser's jazz show, "Miles Ahead?" His humorous delivery and mix of music was second to none. Upon some research, Neil Tesser was a DJ at WBEZ, years ago (back when many big names were DJ's there).
If I recall correctly, it was 1998, when Newsweb bought 1470, started the simulcast of WSBC, and started Access Radio (which included 750 and 1240.)
I remember hearing (throughout the week, on 750): unique content, on the Eastern European shows. I couldn't turn it off. I heard 78's and songs from the early 20th Century (many of which are on YouTube).
It's all up to Fred. We have memories (I recorded as much as I could of 750 and 1470). Whatever happens, happens. As the song goes, "Que Sera Sera." Best of luck to 750, Access Radio, Newsweb, and Fred. Again...let's see how this plays out.
