These are all songs that Bob and I learned growing up in Spokane and studying banjo with Dutch Groshoff. At each lesson Dutch would write out the chord melodies of a song from memory. He was amazing. The first songs I learned were "Bye Bye" and "Just Because."
I credit Bob with making plectrum banjo a part of The Brothers Four's repertoire. When he and I toured Japan together as members of The Brothers Four in 1979 I joined him on a wonderful medley he created that included "Waiting for the Robert E. Lee."
At that time we would use our 5 string banjos-loosening the 5th string and putting it around the bridge to deaden the sound of that string and tuning the 4th string to C (from D)-these days I bring two banjos on the road-a Deering Tenbrooks 5 string and a Vega Vox IV four string from the 60's.
