The torque tube on the Chevette axle does two things:
I transmits not only the forward motion, but also transfers the axle's rotational torque to the body, both of which are accomplished by the leaf springs in an S-10. The panhard rod on the Chevette suspension locates the rear axle side-to-side. This is also done by the S-10's leaf springs.
So in order to use an S10 axle it's necessary to either use leaf springs,
or...
fabricate a rear suspension that accomplishes all of the leaf spring functions.
Like a coil-over and four-link/ladder bar/panhard bar setup ...
Fun huh?
Yeah.
Cake, right?
