Here are those league standings:
(1) Rachel (7-5) 1,204 pts
(2)* Andrew (6-6) 1,190 pts
(3) Calvin (7-5) 1,203 pts
(4) Chris (6-6) 1,188 pts
(5) Robert (6-6) 1,171 pts
(6) Me (6-6) 1,134 pts
(7) Seldon (6-6) 1,004 pts
(8) Uncle Rich (4-8) 1,126 pts
* Andrew is considered the division leader, which gets the #2 seed, regardless of record.
I mean, could things be much tighter? Rachel isn't guaranteed a #1 seed even if she wins, because Calvin might outscore her by as few as two points (assuming he wins). Andrew plays Rachel and might outscore her by 15 points, which could boost him to a #1 seed (depending on the result of Calvin vs Chris). I know that Uncle Rich is mathematically eliminated. Seldon would need to beat Robert to have any chance, and then it's possible that all the other 6-6 teams (which are in the same division) could finish with 6-7 records. In that case, only the team with the most points would get a playoff berth. I know that I need to pass two teams. Even if Robert wins, I could outscore him by 37 and then move up to the fifth spot. I can't control what happens with Andrew or Chris, but I know that at least Calvin is really competitive and will probably be trying to finish at 8-5.
Coming into last week, I remember being at least 90 points behind teams like Andrew or Chris, so to be within 54 now looks a little better, except for how I'd need another performance close to 141 points, and they'd need to be in the 80 point range.
I kind of mentioned this week's schedule already. The teams that would currently qualify for the playoffs are facing each other, so it's kind of like at least one of them from my division might lose. Chris is leading Calvin based on Ezekiel Elliott playing last night. It was a low scoring game by his standards (15 points), although he did have a TD. Chris still has Julio Jones in a home game against the Chiefs defense. I'm not sure how the Chiefs can lead the league at intercepting balls, but in fantasy statistics, they've allowed 14 TDs to the WR position. Denver isn't an amazing passing offense, right? They still had 304 yards and 3 TDs from just 14 catches by the wide receivers. Chris has Broncos D/ST also. Calvin benched Vikings D/ST (so did I in another league), which would've gotten him 10 points. Calvin can counter Elliott with LeSean McCoy and Julio Jones with Mike Evans. I see a possible advantage at QB for Cal (Derek Carr vs Tyrod Taylor [playing in the same game?]) and maybe TE (Greg Olsen vs Tyler Eifert).
Rachel's team had a weird season. I wasn't taking them seriously at 2-4. Then I had to play her and barely escaped (86-85?). Well, now she's on a five game winning streak with a core of Aaron Rodgers (Tom Brady ON THE BENCH), DeMarco Murray, Mark Ingram, Jordy Nelson, and Jimmy Graham. DeMarco is on his bye week, and I don't know if Rachel will adjust her lineup (other guys have played through their byes and she still won). She only has Jonathan Stewart to replace him, and his matchup looks bad "on paper" (road game in Seattle). Andrew looks like he's going to set a high score or possibly flame out. He has Matt Ryan at QB (3,516 yards, 26 TDs, 6 INTs and five games left?!!), and then Melvin Gordon (0 TDs in the past three weeks, but one was a bye), Spencer Ware, and Jordan Howard. At WR, he has Antonio Brown (I wonder which Giants' CB is covering him?), and then he's streaming the Patriots D/ST. They have a "floor" of 8 points in the past two games, and the Rams are giving up 8.5 points per game to defenses over the past four weeks.
Two brothers are playing each other. Robert got 14 points already from Dez Bryant. Seldon only got a total of 20 from Dak Prescott, Matt Asiata, and Cowboys D/ST. Robert finally started Kirk Cousins over Cam Newton, but it looks like an unfavorable matchup (at Arizona). From the same game, Robert will have David Johnson running against a Redskins team that has only held three teams to 0 rushing TDs.
It feels like I can only worry about Uncle Rich. The three "cards" from his "hand" that played yesterday only mustered up 10 points, so it looks hopeful. Meanwhile, my only TE has the worst kind of separation in his shoulder joint, and three WRs on the bench have a Q next to their names. We'll have to see what I can do in the next few days. Remember that, even if I win, my fate is up to three teams ahead of me in the divisional standings.
How about the other league? I was able to win 107-86 against the team that's now in the second spot of my division. His team and the leader from the other division might finish at 9-4, but I'm ahead of them by at least 49 fantasy points. Within my division, it's a 146 point lead, so I've probably "clinched" the division and a 2 seed, but I'm trying for the #1 seed. The team I just beat last week has to go through a 7-5 team with an impressive number of points, but I don't see many scary names on the 7-5 team: Sam Bradford, Stefon Diggs, DeSean Jackson (at Arizona), Vance McDonald, Robert Kelley (at Arizona). If that 7-5 team misses the playoffs, then "TNSU Aristocrat" would have to win and possibly sneak in with an unimpressive 940 points through 12 weeks (although he's 1-1 against me, and I only beat him by maybe three last time).
If I did end up as the #1 seed, I'd have to prepare for either of those teams (best chance to be the #4 seed). For now, "Team 3" intimidates me the most: Drew Brees, Le'Veon Bell, DeMarco Murray (on a bye), Spencer Ware, Mike Evans. I don't think I could play him in the first round unless either of us slips to the #3 seed.
