(1) Rachel (7-5) 1,204 pts
Today: 67 points (1,271 total)
Game score: Trailing by 45 points
Still to play: Jimmy Graham (22 point ceiling), Seahawks D/ST (12 point ceiling)
Projected record: 7-6
Basically, it would take the best performance of the season from those two positions to make the game a close loss. I have seen the Chiefs' D/ST score 32 fantasy points in a single game, though.
(2)* Andrew (6-6) 1,190 pts
Today: 112 points (1,302 total)
Game score: Leading by 45 points
Still active: Antonio Brown about to go final
Projected record: 7-6
(3) Calvin (7-5) 1,203 pts
Today: 85 points (1,288 total)
Game score: Tied, with Robert Kelley active for the other team
Still to play: Greg Olsen, Steven Hauschka
Projected record: 8-5?
Since only he and Rachel had a chance to finish 8-5, that looks like our #1 overall playoff seed.
(4) Chris (6-6) 1,188 pts
Today: 85 points (1,273 total)
Game score: Tied
Still to play: Robert Kelley is active, then it's just Adam Vinatieri
Projected record: 6-7?
If he loses, he's eliminated. Based on looking at this week's schedule, I thought this game might be really close, but I picked Calvin to win. It's definitely possible for a kicker to outscore the combination of a kicker and a tight end.
(5) Robert (6-6) 1,171 pts
Today: 114 points (1,285 total)
Game score: Leading by 88 points
Still to play: Only Cam Newton on the bench (the starters have finalized scores)
Projected record: 7-6
This is interesting, because he could either pass Chris in wins OR points, if Vinatieri only has an average game. It's horrible news for me, because I needed 38 more points than Robert to break a tie with him (meaning 152?).
(6) Me (6-6) 1,134 pts
Today: 68 points - My BENCH currently has more! (1,202 total)
Game score: Leading by 8 points
Still to play: Brandon Marshall and Frank Gore on Monday night. Brandon's season highs all came at the Steelers: 8 catches, 114 yards, TD (17 fantasy points). Frank Gore is a bit of a "high floor, low ceiling" player, too. His best game was 19 fantasy points (71 total yards, 2 rushing TDs).
Projected record: 7-6
I'm trying to see how many points I potentially left on the bench.
Here were the QBs:
Drew Brees 10
Matthew Stafford 30
I started Brees at home, even though Stafford made Matthew Berry's "love" list this week (both playing in the same game). Brees was held without a passing TD.
Running backs:
Devonta Freeman 21
Doug Martin 12
Jeremy Hill 10
Frank Gore ?
I started Freeman and Martin, so that looks like a good decision. Freeman has FOUR rushing TDs in the past two games, including vs the Cardinals. That 21 is his second-highest score all year, so it's hard to be upset. Martin's 12 represents his highest score of an injury-shortened season, so how can you be mad about him scoring a TD? Jeremy Hill has a steady floor lately, but not an exciting ceiling. He also ran for a TD.
Wide receivers:
Michael Crabtree 13
Odell Beckham, Jr. 10
Tyrell Williams 10
Jamison Crowder 10
Brandon Marshall ?
Again, it's like, there's nothing to criticize! Yeah, Odell didn't score a TD, but he was within two points of his season average. The story with Williams and Crowder is that I've questioned dropping one of them, because they're so bunched up in the rankings and have really similar statistics. How did Tyrell get 10 points with a torn labrum in his shoulder? Crabtree has been hot and cold lately, but more hot in the last two weeks. I just didn't like the matchup with the Bills.
Tight end:
Antonio Gates 3
Jordan Reed [separated shoulder; ruled out]
My matchup this week was against Jason Witten, who didn't catch a ball (breaking a really long catch streak), so I saw nothing but "upside" no matter who started for me. Obviously, you'd rather have a healthy Reed who can score 2 TDs in a game, but it's hard to guess which free agent TE will score in a given week (I had to get Gates at the last minute).
Defense:
Chargers 2
Chiefs 6
I didn't start the Chiefs, but that was because I think they were traveling to Atlanta and facing the highest scoring team in the whole NFL. The Chargers were a risk as a free agent, since the Ravens weren't available in our league (only in my public league, I guess).
I only have one kicker, who scored 10, so again, how can you get too upset?
Pretty much, other than tight end and defense, which have been hard to figure out all year (besides the top two or three), I see lots of double-digit scores. That QB decision didn't help me, but I think I would've maxed out around 111 points so far? That couldn't have beaten Andrew or Robert head-to-head, so it won't let me pass them in the point standings.
(7) Seldon (6-6) 1,004 pts
Today: 26 points (1,030 total)
Game score: Trailing by 88 points
Still to play: Matt Forte, Doug Baldwin, and a questionable T. Y. Hilton
Projected record: 6-7
Did he just give up? His best players look like Forte and Hilton, but even those two have slipped towards the lower end of the top eight at their respective positions.
(8) Uncle Rich (4-8) 1,126 pts
Today: 60 points (1,186 total)
Game score: Trailing by 8 points
Still to play: Andrew Luck, returning from a concussion
Projected record: 4-9
This game isn't even decided yet! He still has the highest scoring fantasy position against only 10 points by Drew Brees. I'm just hoping my lead and having an extra player in hand holds up.
********
That leaves Calvin, Andrew, Rachel, and Robert going to the playoffs? Calvin won the league in the inaugural season (2012). I wasn't part of the league back then. Andrew has been runner-up (2012), champion (2013), runner-up (2014), and then I forget last year's finish. He made the semifinals, but lost and played for third place. I don't remember Rachel making the playoffs (she's only played two or three seasons). Robert may have qualified last year, but he didn't go to the finals. I'm facing the prospect of never having a losing regular season and still missing the last two semifinal brackets.
********
Are you wondering about my other league? I'm leading 91-62 with only Doug Baldwin playing tonight. The other team has Andrew Luck and Jonathan Stewart. I can still afford to lose, since I've clinched a playoff spot. It's mostly about trying to get our #1 seed.
