The lake at the Northeastern Corner of the Great State of Illinois, is now called:

Pontoon lake my ass, that's Granite Lake... and Nameoki Road... ole smoky Nameoki didn't make it, it's now Granite, call that damn thing Granite parkway...and all of 203, including the part that goes through Madison.

Pontoon wants to do something with Long Lake, let them have that little mosquito ridden slough...they ain't getting the big lake.

Wilson Park? I'd name it after Von DEE, and see if DEE Snyder wants to play at the dedication of Dee Park.

I mean most people in town probably call it Da Park anyway... Now it's DEE Park.

Why is the park named after a floating volleyball in the first place?

And we need to name the bordering street WINNING street.

What kind of optics do we have when the athletic fields and all the kids grade 6-12 come to school on FEHLING road?

We're calling that damn think WINNING ROAD from now on.

WINNING ROAD and GRANITE Parkway...now we're talking.

We can talk about more renaming....and since I haven't taken over yet, you can propose your own names too.

Why not, any jagoff with a pen can sign a piece of paper, and somehow get a name changed just like that.

I know I didn't get your vote, but I'm just having a little fun, and trying to get myself in a good mood this morning.

Hope your day treats you well.

But don't you agree? That little stretch between Benton and Johnson should be called WINNING street?

Madison has its street, and there is also a Venice Avenue, Edwardsville Rd., Old Alton Road, Maryville Road, Pontoon Road?

And the taxpayers in GRANITE CITY pay taxes for streets named after other towns, and some little hamlet that doesn't exist, because Granite won out?

Now I know there's some little street hidden around 13th or 14th Street called Granite ave, a little diagonal, little known street that connects 14th and McCambridge.

But that is not what people who believe in the greatness of Granite City should stand for.

Nope... maybe a road to the treatment plant should be called Edwardsville St.... and then all of 203 should be Granite Parkway....and the little bit of Edwardsville Road that's not along 203 should also be renamed...

I know that if you believe in the Greatness of Granite you'd be with me.

No more FAILING road systems.

I was actually talking about all the outlandish scenarios that I could come up with in the naming of things in Granite City. The minute he came up with Pontoon Lake, it opened up the box of possibilities.

I have always wondered why Horseshoe lake? How did that name come about? Pontoon Beach? Where is the beach? I never looked into it but it makes me curious as to how some of these names came about.

Careful, if we take 203 away from the state, we'll be responsible for repairs and maintenance. Might rethink that one.

I'd like to rename the pools at the wastewater plant. Let's call it Liberal Lake. It could hold all the tears of liberals and clean up their crap at the same time. LOL

At one time Horseshoe Lake had a nice swimming area and a big resort. Once it became polluted from the Mill, I wouldn't swim in it or even eat a fish from it. The name may have been from the shape? There's a Horseshoe Lounge in Collinsville. Any connection?

I can't imagine Horseshoe lake being a resort area, I know it was and I have seen old pics but isn't that lake really shallow too? I definitely wouldn't eat anything caught there, who knows whats in that lake?

I think it was part of the course of the Mississippi River, and after the earthquake in the early 1800's, the river changed its course and this lake may have been left behind. It's just really the overall shape of the lake.

There is another Horseshoe Lake down in Alexander County, one of few places in Illinois where Cyprus trees can be found.

This is a serious fact (time to stop acting like a Trump supporter and put on the thinking cap for a brief moment):

HORSESHOE LAKE, and the one in Madison County, not Alexander County is the SECOND LARGEST natural lake in Illinois, and the LARGEST contained entirely within the State of Illinois.

Look it up....

Lake Illinois, formerly Lake Michigan, would be the largest overall natural lake in Illinois, but it shares territory in other states.

So there you have it....one way to Make Granite city Great Again is start naming things after Granite City.

If Madison wants their avenue, make them pay for it, make Maryville pay for Maryville Road, and Make Edwardsville pay for Edwardsville road in full....before we yank that damn name off every sign in Granite City...and make it the little road that goes back to Opinionated's Liberal Lake!

Second largest city in Southern Illinois (for a little while longer) and being located next to the largest natural lake within Illinois....

And Granite City has to settle for unknown status beyond 50 miles away from the City Limits?

Yeah, Nameoki was annexed into Granite City in 1950's.

I like town names that win, not towns that get eaten up... : )

Hey, let's not focus on those little things. I think it's a great idea, honoring public servants like that and getting big name entertainers into town.

Besides, most people already go to The Park, what's wrong with giving it a slight update....

Pontoon Road from Chateau Road to Pontoon is not in Pontoon.

It should be Granite City Road. It belongs to Granite City not Pontoon....
