Last night the school board voted in a new member to take the place of Dr. Bill MacMasters who left the board a month or so ago.
The board went through an exhaustive process of screening potential candidates which is how it should be done.
They appointed a woman by the name of Susan Bryant. I don't personally know her. I don't remember her being a candidate for office before this appointment, but she may have been.
This afternoon Mrs. O. showed me a post that someone on FB shared. It came directly from the FB page of the new member. Seeing it, I asked the wife to look up her FB page.
All I can say is, if this lady's view on law enforcement is that they are brutal racist as indicated by a few of her postings, I'm disgusted.
She basically supports views that puts law enforcement in a bad light and in fact, she could be considered, in my opinion, just as guilty of off hand remarks as Dr. MacMasters was when he resigned.
For you board members who supported this woman over the other candidates, you'll answer for this next April. I'm appalled that you supposedly researched these candidates and think this person was the right choice.
It's apparent there was a motive here and the people on these facebook pages indicate it was a set up to protect the current administration. Time will tell.they did not fail, because they did what their country asked of them....

I'm hearing the same things myself. The board is being accused of stacking the deck to protect the upcoming contract renewal of Ms. Cann.
This newly appointed bigot has no place on our school board. I read the garbage all over her Facebook, and she declared she was walking away from FB because Mark Zuckerberg allowed content that goes against her beliefs.
Another left leaning bleeding-heart liberal lunatic that got her feelings hurt and permanently damaged when Hillary lost the election. So she is really going to show ole Zuckerberg and walk away from Facebook, I hope he and the staff slept okay after her declaration.
One of her rants, "Susan Bryant June 3, 2020 · I am not on Facebook much, but I am leaving this social media platform. I am not leaving because of hateful remarks made to me or my friends for our opinions. I am not leaving because of the deplorable images streaming along my thread. I am a firm believer that we MUST ALL see what is happening around us. I think everyone of us should watch the horrible and unnecessary murder of a man by a police officer with his hands casually placed in his pockets as his fellow public servants stand by and do nothing, even at times turning their backs on the crime scene. The key to democracy is an informed people. Americans think that a “right” means you don’t have to be accountable. We are ALL responsible for what happens in our neighborhoods, our villages, our cities, our country. Many of us turn our backs on the injustices around us. Most of the time this happens as a sin of omission or worse, the sin of silence. I will do my best to not commit these sins now. I can no longer live this way. I will not turn my back or remain silent. BLACK LIVES MATTER! For those who want to say ALL lives matter, sure, but this is not about you—us with a paler shade of skin tone. I stand or take a knee with my black fellow Americans. I wish I could do so much more… Yes, we have the freedom of speech, an unheard-of concept when our founding fathers stated it in our Bill of Rights. Free speech is a sacred right, but with that right comes great responsibility. Leadership, actions, and WORDS have incredible power, and they should never be used as a weapon of destruction or to simple gain points in a poll or followers on a social media site. Supreme Court Justice, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. wrote the opinion in Schenck v. United States in 1919 concerning free speech: “The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man FALSELY shouting fire in a theatre and causing a panic…The question in every case is whether the words used are used in such circumstances and are OF SUCH A NATURE AS TO CREATE A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER THAT THEY WILL BRING ABOUT THE SUBSTANTIVE EVILS that Congress has a right to prevent (Emphasis added).” Our leadership uses words, images, and social media to spew hatred, fear, and divisiveness. President Trump speaks about Americans as if he hates that we even exist. I love free speech and all the other rights we had bestowed on us. It is my right, but I must earn, uphold, and protect that privilege. I believe Mark Zuckerberg failed us, his employees, his clients, and his country. As reported by the New York Times yesterday, “Facebook’s principles and policies supporting free speech ‘show that the right action where we are right now is to leave this up…’” was Zuckerberg’s response to his employees for not flagging or removing Trumps posts. I am disappointed he did not have the courage to stand up to a bully who wants to turn our military against his own people for his own glorification. I cannot condone this. Now this is why I leave Facebook. I cannot support a company that blatantly disregards the rants that “…CREATE A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER THAT THEY WILL BRING ABOUT THE SUBSTANTIVE EVILS.”
Another crybaby snowflake having influence over our schools, great, just great!

I wonder what she'll do at the first board meeting when they all stand and face the flag with hands over their hearts to say the Pledge of Allegiance, drop to the floor and take a knee as she promises.
What a pathetic example for the students. The board members who put this woman in this position need their heads examined, and more than that, VOTED OUT!
When I think of the other applicants they passed up to give the open spot to this woman, I'm even more disgusted!

No surprise. Just surprised it took this long for more people to see that the Granite public schools went woke. This is just the beginning. It is and has happened in just about every state.

Word has it that there was a 3-3 stalemate between the remaining board members. To break the deadlock, one board member caved so the appointment could be made.
It's no secret in town that this Superintendent has not lived here despite buying a home near Frohardt School. She calls it her, "She Shack" according to some in the central office.
She has been under fire, some just and some not, for her actions. The administrative numbers have increased and she even has a personal PR guy that follows her around taking her picture.
Meanwhile, special education classes are not in compliance, bus service is a disaster and people are in arms about non-neighborhood schools. (not her fault but her duty to fix)
Her contract is up for renewal soon. One board member is a relative, one worships her so she needs two more solid votes.
How can a brand new board member, totally clueless to her performance, come to the table and vote on extending her contract within a month of being seated?
I hope the remaining board members take the time to listen to the public and weigh that opinion before renewing a $170,000 contract for someone who think she's too good to live here. She'll be fine either way.
Elections have consequences and as for the new member with her cop hating rhetoric, if she doesn't resign before she's seated, I hope this city votes her out in April. they did not fail, because they did what their country asked of them....

I strolled through her Facebook as well. So many things much more egregious than what Mr. McMasters posted on his account. He took the high road and resigned (though I'm sure anyone who knows him knows he had no harmful intent). But intent doesn't count when you hold a position such as this. All that mattered was that someone was offended, and that is all it took. Now I AM OFFENDED, so does that count? There is no way anyone did a true dive when vetting this woman, or they figured the general public would react with their usual indifference and not think a second thought about it.
Who is this woman? WHAT is this woman? Do we know how the vote from the board landed for this WOKE LIBERAL? I love the comment about the Pledge of Allegiance, how is she going to handle that? Fall to the floor, take a knee? Is she waiting in the wings to add Critical Race Theory into the current curriculum?
I am equally disgusted Opinionated. I want names of who voted for her and who did not. I will mark my ballot accordingly when the time comes. And not only to remove those who pushed this controversial woman through the process, but for those who continue to bloat the district with unnecessary administrators. Someone on Facebook said they have never seen the likes of so many secretaries, secretaries with secretaries. And you know they are all probably unionized and building those nice pensions.
I thought for sure when it was exposed that one of the board member's husband was present and aware during the Crider sex scandal that it would be enough to force her resignation. Apparently not the case. That's how it is these days, the woke liberals don't want to hurt anyone's feelings like the daughter of a local known business person who goes to school dressed in full Anime (look it up), or another student who is allowed lime green hair, sporting full clown make up - what are these board members allowing to happen to our educational system right here in Granite City????? Why have they decided to let droves of students speak at graduation now? What happened to the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the graduating class being honored by allowing them to speak? I'll tell you why, whining parents complaining that their kid was only a fraction away from being first or second and that it is unfair and will damage them for life....so we change the rules or requirements. Like that is going to happen for them everytime in the future they don't get what they want, and are forced to experience disappointment.
I want to know the numbers, is this information available on line, perhaps in their minutes? Not only does Cann need to be removed, so do those who plan on renewing her contract. I want a hard ass superintendent in this district that will lead the board back to more traditional things like NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS, not attendance centers. Half the bus problems would be eliminated if kids could walk to schools in their own neighborhoods. I want a dress code, nothing drastic, but I don't care to see the "F" bomb plastered across someone's chest.
We need to rid the Granite City School Board of liberal minded idiots, and vote in common sense with no fear of offending parents or their kids.

GC Lady, I did a little more research after reading your comments. Afterall, the information from closed session portion of the BOE meetings usually is all over town by the next morning.
Here's what I picked up and please remember, this is third hand information.
The superintendent is up for a contract extension. Knowing she is under fire from at least a couple of board members and a good portion of the community, she has to secure four votes to get an extension. The remaining six board members were split 3-3 on who to appoint.
With the loss of Dr. MacMasters, there was a potential of a split decision on a contract extension. So, they go through a "search", the proper way to learn about candidates and interview a few of those folks. It seems like, in today's world, a quick look at the social media pages of any candidate would have been looked at but maybe not.
So, several candidates were interviewed. I heard one name but not 100% sure so I won't mention it. In comes a woman who is supposedly close to one of the board members who favors Dr. Con. She's a former educator so that's a plus. However, according to what I learned, she's never shown much interest in local politics and in fact, hasn't voted in several local elections. So, of course, people see her as a plant and a potential 4th vote for the superintendent. The superintendent has a relative on the board and he previously abstained from voting when she was hired so it it's assumed he will again.
It becomes very clouded because now you theoretically have six members voting for the extension of the contract, one who will be seated for less than a minute when she cast what could be a deciding vote.
In fairness, this appointee may be a good person with no hidden agenda. It just looks bad at this stage of the game and when you look at the disgusting rhetoric on her FB page about police officers, it causes serious concern (at least to more conservative people).
Time will tell I guess, and one thing is certain, there is an election next April and I seriously doubt this lady, with her views exposed, will be picked by the public to serve.
Gotta love the local politics. LOL.they did not fail, because they did what their country asked of them....

Zuck is too far to the right for her, thats all anyone needs to know. Zuckerberg is a tool of the Democrat Party. Everyone can huff and puff about what is going to happen. Not a damn thing is going to happen other than it is going to get worse. We get what we deserve. They have the dumbest of the dumb yelling into the megaphones and leading the other dumbasses.

The thing that bothers me even more than this one cop hater is the crickets we are hearing from the other board members. This means they either agree with her or at the very least have no desire to stand up to her which is sad, pathetic, and a bit cowardly. They are not responsible for her looniness but the silence is deafening as the saying goes. They have the dumbest of the dumb yelling into the megaphones and leading the other dumbasses.

Joe, I think it comes down to they were more interested in finding a vote to protect the superintendent than they were to find a board member to represent the public and the children.
I seriously doubt we will see her name on a ballot. She will probably vote for the contract extension and then bow out.
Did she close out her page like most cowards do when they are exposed?they did not fail, because they did what their country asked of them....

Blue, that may make sense. When you leave kids on a bus for an hour and a half, they're bound to get restless and more prone to bad behavior.
The bus situation in many districts appears to be out of control.they did not fail, because they did what their country asked of them....
