Dee, now I feel you're just trying to play mind games with me because I know that even though you are a democrat, you are not a flaming liberal nut job. Allow me to address the points you made.
One of many -- is that meeting the gap for basic needs is a lot better than what happens when those needs are met.
For how long? Under the Trump economy ( and I know that burns ) we had record low unemployment among blacks, hispanics and women. Wouldn't you expect some of these people to be off the public tit yet?
Even decent Republicans in Utah have some of this figured out. In all places, in Utah - I'm not sure if it's governmental or private --- but the cost of housing the homeless is cheaper than when they become an actual burden on society.
Careful. They'll kick you out of the little dems club for admitting that deplorables can actually be decent. You also more than likely know that a certain percentage of the homeless population live that way because they want to . It's kind of like the hobos that rode the rail in my young days.
Versus the price if one of the kids or both turn bad.... Prison costs the tax payer $30,000 a year EACH...or MORE.
So you think giving these people a $600 check will turn their life around and keep them out of jail? Most criminals choose their path and wealth has nothing to do with it. Again, by now if they don't have jobs, they probably don't want one.
It's actually better to invest in those who struggle the most
There's usually an expected return on investment. (well there was until January 21, 2021). When I see one of my investments going down the toilet, I sell and reinvest in something that will pay off as I did recently.
But then again --- let's just keep shitting on them, judging them..labeling them......and enjoy paying that higher cost to build more prisons and the high costs of the legal system and the healthcare system....because we want to discard them like trash.
Ahhh, there's the liberal line that makes me think you're playing games with me. No one is shitting on someone else just because they want that person to work for a living and not ask for a continual handout. No one wants to see them in jail. We want to see them earn their way. Those are Nancy and Betty tag lines and mean nothing. We tried Obamacare and it failed miserably. Talk to the CEO of Gateway Regional and ask him what Obamacare did to the health industry. Insurance companies did quite well and guess where they donate millions?
In closing I will say that I do empathize with the poor. As I said earlier, I was considered poor growing up and I dealt with kids in high school who wore nicer clothes, who lived in the big houses in town and who, in a few cases, had cars daddy bought them. You know what it did for me? It didn't make me bitter. It didn't make me want to lay down and quit and go on welfare as an adult. It made me work my ass off. It made me open two offices instead of one. It made me smile with a bit of sweet revenge when one of those rich kids from school was one of my first clients and I stuck it to him. LOL. Over my 50 year career, I probably donated well over six figures to various causes. I did it of choice because I felt blessed. I didn't do it because the government made me do it.
And therein lies the difference between conservative and liberal thinking. Good debate dee but we will never see eye to eye on this one.
