I'm curious about your comments about Hagnauer's pensions. He worked in the fire department under union contract and deserves the pension he earned there just like any other firefighter. ( or for that matter any other American worker) He was on the county board but I'm not sure if he was there long enough to be vested in a pension. If the county gets an IMRF pension like Hagnauer does as Mayor, that would qualify him as he is vested after four terms here. But here's the thing. He ran for the two political positions. He was elected by choice of the people. He is entitled to the benefits set forth. If you read about IMRF pensions, you practically have to contribute for life to get 50% of your salary. As Mayor, Haganauer probably earns around $50,000 so even if he gets 25 years of service, he'll get around a $25,000 pension. Not much considering the criticism he endures. I would suggest if anyone wants such a pension, they try for one of those seats. Personally, and I know it's good money for some, $2,000 a month isn't worth the abuse. As for his original firefighter pension. He earned that and if you have a problem with his, you have a problem with every firefighter in the country.
