Go ahead and start the salary at $30,000 and top them off at $50,000.... chase out the union and create your own scab force and see where that leaves Granite City. Would you have a highly rated fire department? I'd shudder to think of where that leaves the police department. All I see are armchair quarterbacks talking the talk with no ability to understand what they're talking about. Before you even try to attack that I did some homework and know that Long Lake has a similarly high rating and they are to be commended. What they do is good for the residents of Granite City's premier suburb. However, try maintaining that in a town with steel plants, chemical storage, and just about any type of fire you can imagine...from tires to wires, to chemicals of every type....and try to maintain that rating with your proposed force...or make it volunteer? Good luck with that. Instead of denigrating public servants, be glad that Granite City has the quality of emergency services that it has. You won't get that at Riverbender wages...
