But they managed to beat the team that beat the Nationals in the regular season. IMO the Cardinals always rate their prospects way too high. Reyes has been a disaster and yes it has mostly been because of injuries, but they could have brought in a nice haul for him. I think Hudson is way over rated, and not because he got lit up last night. I see him at best as a number 3 starter in the future. Hes better than ok, but he isnt Don Drysdale. All year i heard how Kolten Wong will win the gold glove, and he might of if Ozzie Albies wasnt in the league. And no, JD Drew did not become the next Mickey Mantle.
The fans seem to have chosen Dejong and Dez as the designated whipping boys, maybe they should take a look at what Goldschmidt and Molia did in this series, damn near nothing. Molina did manage a homerun last night when the game was pretty much over, but he hit right about 100 for the entire playoffs. The end of his contract will make Alex Steens look like a bargain. I understand why they went after Goldy, but you could see he was already beginning to slide a bit with his numbers, which is probably how they got him. Not every player hits the wall at the same age. Goldy used to be great, now he is very good, with the next stop being pretty good.
They can pin all their hopes on Edmond if they want and the young outfielder that is supposedly going to replace Ozuna. Most of the so called smartest fans in baseball are not going to fall for that, they want the team to bring in established players. Fans are fans, and every city thinks they have the smartest ones and they are all full of it. Over half the ones posting on the baseball forums couldnt point to third base if their lives depended on it. I will never forget two years ago when one genius fan said he would not trade Alex Reyes and Matt Carpenter for Mike Trout. That was before Carpenter forgot how to hit but still. Then we have the ones that want to package Wong, Brebbia and a prospect for Cody Bellinger. Every city has idiot fans like that and a lot of them.
They need two hitters with losing Ozuna and they need another pitcher. All this lineup talk about, well do we sacrifice defense for hitting or do we go with hitting. If you are a top team, you dont sacrifice anything, these are the best players in the world, it isnt little league. Does anyone think the Nationals fretted over what to sacrifice, offense or defense in this series?? Hell no, they set the same lineup, took that good pitching and stuck the Cardinals bats up their asses. They did the same thing to the Dodgers, just not as convincingly. Maybe they will do it again to the Yankees or Astros, but they will have to be even better to pull that off.
