Sports franchise owners like to go where they can get the best deal. Cities make big offers like St. Louis did with the Rams and then later try to weasel out of them. Kroenke wanted out of here and used that to his advantage. The Rams helped the city and surrounding areas with a huge revenue spike that will not be made up with Minor League football or even soccer. Owner, why should i bring my team to your city, City officials, because we will accommodate you every way that we can and get you that new stadium soon. Its not quite the same as generational welfare, but if that works for you fine. The sports franchise gives back to the community, i think thats one its bitsy difference.
St.Louis has lost a baseball team, two pro basketball teams, two football teams, and damn near lost the Blues several times over the years. I lost track how many soccer teams have come and gone. This is a two pro teams city, baseball and hockey, with only baseball really being 100% safe. They may bring the NBA back and it might survive, but as history has shown, it might not.
