I am no fan of the Cubs, but I always did like Joe Maddon. I think they're making a mistake, but whatever makes them lose even more cannot be so bad.
I respect Maddon though; I think he bested Matheny all the years they went head to head. It was the four game sweep that may have turned the tide, and eliminated the Cubs as contenders.
I would not want Maddon to replace Shildt, and I don't believe he will.
I think he will land somewhere.... a number of teams will be doing the managing Merry Go Round this time of year.
