I would have to say our biggest problem is the mindset of the average citizen of GC. We as a whole think of our town as doomed, and as a result make no effort to change that.
We have fallen so far from being the "all american city" in 1958, to what we have today. if you want to spit up, look up that video on utube and sit back and watch in disgust.
The older folks who made our town great are disappering, moving, and are not involved with our town anymore. As a result, not too many people are willing to throw their hat into that ring of fire called city politics. And there is a good reason for that, being a so called democrat town. If you dont have the big D, tattoed on your forehead, people are just scared to support you, and you will fail.
Mayor Pagano is im told a democrat, and im sure a lot of the Pontoon leaders are also. The big difference is, they are conservative thinking folks, and they all work together. Brad, one of the trustees even mows the grass and helps with other jobs as well. All the elected officials work, proving that it takes a village, pun intended.
We have a lot of good people in town who try, Brenda Whitaker is an example. She gets people together on clean up days, but the trash is back the next week. Again, our mindset has to change.
A much wiser man than me once said, "policicians and diapers need to be changed often, for the same reason", quite true i believe. Mayor Pagano is an exception to that rule because he is very involved with his town, and it shows.
