Are you in or out? Archived Message

Can someone explain this to me please? Can local government just change the electric company you have used your entire life, without asking your permission first?

I read on a facebook page where it appears that is exactly what has taken place in Pontoon Beach. It was explained in this post that if you wanted to "opt out" you could, but are being advised against doing so.

It seems that if you wanted to participate in this change, that is when you would fill out the card mentioned and send it in, not the other way around. There will be so many people that do not pay attention to a little post card that comes in the mail and toss it into the trash and be shocked when they discover they no longer have Ameren service. The way this change is taking place seems suspicious or questionable to say the least.

    From the Mayor

"Previously the village has signed up with Homefield Energy for a lower energy rate. We have been with them for awhile now. Here recently the rate has dropped to .055 per KWH. We are at .057 now. This will take effect June 2019 to June 2020. If you choose to opt out your bill will be higher. I suggest that you don't however it is your option. To opt out simply fill out the card out that is sent to ...you. The Village will always shop for the cheapest electric. If you get a call from an electrical supplier of energy saying that they can reduce your bill do not go for it. Your bill usually will wind up a lot higher than you were normally paying. The only way is through the village municipal aggregation program. So if you get the little card in the mail that is pictured below that is what it's all about! Thank you"
