For those of you who want to continue to lay the blame for this city dying on the politicians, you simply don't understand. It's not the town, it's the people.
When you have a Lowe's in town that always looks like crap, with things blocking aisles, employees standing around doing nothing while you shop, it's not worth the frustration. That's not the town, that's the people.
When you go in the local Wal Mart and see obese women walking around while leaning their elbows on their cart and ignoring their three year old crying and whining, that's not the town, that's the people.
When you pull up to a stop sign and the 1970 tatted up throwback motorcycle pulls up next to you and guns the motor the whole time he sits there, that's not the town, that's the people.
When you sit at an intersection and watch some white trash, inbred idiot empty his car ashtray on the street, that's not the town, that's the people.
When you see three baby mammas each push a shopping cart up to the stop light by Arby's and then throw their Snicker Bar wrapper on the ground, that's not the town, that's the people.
When you see assclowns that leave their dog tied up on a chain all day barking and crying, that's not the town that's the people.
When you see parents more concerned about the high school leaving a sporting conference than they do about the educational material, that's not the town, that's the people.
When you see a business that closes and leaves their signs up for somebody else to take care of, i.e. Dave's Movies and More, that's not the town, that's the people.
Are you getting the theme? Granite City isn't dying because of Ed Hagnauer or some council member. It's dying because those of us who still have pride in our property and ourselves are now outnumbered by a socio-economic group who are simply too lazy or stupid to take some pride in themselves.
They want to hit the bingo halls and taverns and spend their money on body ink and piercings while allowing their kids to fend for themselves. They want to blame the schools when their kids fail because it couldn't be genetics. Yes, blame the teachers and Greenwald but try to explain why many kids are successful.
Blame Ed Hagnauer and the city because your neighbor the pig, can't seem to keep his grass mowed or his trash cans covered. Yes, the city should ticket people like this but there are3 simply too many of them because the are LAZY and have NO CLASS or PRIDE.
I'm personally sick of low lass, poor white trash or blacks who want to blame the system. You want to know where the blame lies? Look in a damn mirror. Chances are good you'll see a major contributor into the death of Granite City.
To all of you who leave your property looking like crap, who treat your child's education with less emphasis than which tattoo you're getting next, who throw trash out of the window at the intersection while stopped, or to those low lifes who leave their shopping carts in the main drag because they're too lazy to carry a few bags by hand, I hope you enjoy the funeral. I hope when it's all said and done that you are the ones stuck here when this town finally takes it's last breath. You are what's wrong with Granite City and with most towns in America.
