No Wally, the answer is to dissolve these antique forms of government and get rid of the fools that appear to be running it.
In Granite City, the city council oversees the township business. NO additional town board. They simply approve a bill list presented by Mr. Shipley.
Pontoon could pick up the duties of the Nameoki board and the mayor could take over the executive actions currently done by the supervisor. The highway department could be swallowed up by the Granite City Street department and the office staff could go by the wayside as it appears they have nothing to do anyway.
Think of the savings for the taxpayers.
Supervisor salary? $50,000? Office staff $40,00? Board members $30,000?
Close the assessors office and have the county pick it up. Most of it's done electronically now anyway.
My guess is the citizens would save at minimum $200,000 and wouldn't notice any change in service.
