This link describes the formal process to eliminate townships. I've always believed they were an extra level of government whose duties could easily be swallowed up by neighboring communities.
This election is as dirty as they get. People on here obviously using multiple names to push their candidate and agenda. We know based on the comments about their meetings that people have lied under oath, possibly used funds illegally and brought in stooges at those meetings to complain about another candidate.
To say it's an embarrassment to the community is to compliment it. It makes the Fox 2 coverage of soccer dude stealing signs look like quality work.
It takes 10% of the registered voters on a petition to get the county board to place this issue on the ballot. Keep in mind, some of our county board members control these townships so they probably wouldn't work to help the cause.
I'm curious how many people on here would be for the idea of eliminating townships in our area.
