Dee, being one of the elder statesman here, I happen to agree with you about the mistakes of the past. I think Granite City, Pontoon and even Mitchell should have merged back in the sixties. Pontoon had property and Granite had the size and the job base. Of course, that ship sailed because of small minded politicians at the time so we'll never know what might have been.
I will say this about the village as I see it now. I see a mayor who doesn't play politics and who just does what his residents like for him to do. I was most impressed when I heard he was out wading in the water last December trying to help people in those trailer parks. Not to mention what he and his board have done with their music festival. That's big time stuff for a small community.
