Granite City should have annexed you while it had the chance....somewhere before 1963. Mayors Davis, Partney, Schuler---et. all... Should have been more aggressive back in the day...but that's okay, the mill was keeping things humming as was other industries around it...Who'd a thunk that German Farm town would house our workers and take our money out of the river bottoms?
No, Granite is not immune by any stretch of the imagination. Democratic machine politics still reigns there too. Still, it doesn't boil down to this petty he said/she said baloney that plays out here. Maybe it's the geographical ward system vs. one clan versus another clan filling village board seats....and the crap brimming over at the township as well. Pontoon Beach is where 270 and 255 come together, it's where horseshoe lake happens to be. It seems like Edwardsville knew how to capitalize on those interstates coming together.... How they continue to prosper on Granite money and opportunities that could have belonged to the Tri City area. Bastards....but bastards that get their $#!+ together....unlike Pontoon Beach.
Why Granite City's suburb has remained so stagnant is baffling to me.... Pontoon Beach is not lacking in opportunities..... they're lacking in their ability to get their $#!+ together.
You have people questioning your neighbor's first amendment right to have a sign in the yard. In that village and in that township you have neighbor against neighbor....and it's truly appalling. Get it together.
Even though Granite has had a rough go, I have appreciated reading about continued efforts to drive growth. They're working together and at least still fighting to be something better.
Pontoon Beach/Nameoki Township is fighting too....fighting each other.
