    You're making the wrong comparisons, Opinionated.

    Granite City is not a bedroom community - and will have a greater share of poverty.

    You wouldn't compare GC with East St. Louis, Cairo, Harvey, etc... but you may want to

    Compare with cities with similar per capita income and you'll get a truer picture of where Granite City compares.

    Even if truancy rates are higher and things like that -- the important thing is that there are still opportunities for those who seek it -- that the most gifted can still get into the best college and that those most in need can get the assistance with their special needs.

    It won't always be perfect, but numbers won't ever tell the whole story.

    Granite Ranks 680 - so compare it to towns near that ranking and with comparable population -- as rural areas with the same income really are still different in many ways.

    If anything --- Alton is one of the most similar cities to Granite City in every way--- population and income.

    Their Godfrey is our Glen Carbon...pretty much.
