Per last night's agenda, the council was poised to approve a contract with Push Media Solutions, a local START UP company, owned by Nicole Schneider Woolard, to generate social media interest in Granite City per our Economic Development Director. The Economic Development Committee (specifically Alderman Jackstadt) reported that they had been in negotiations with Push Media Solutions, but had decided to send this back to committee, or in other words table it until sometime in the future. You need to ask yourself what brought on this spontaneous turn around? Another person on this board mentioned that the council would be approving this at the July 5, 2016 meeting. I think everyone should be on point for when this vote makes it back to the council. I do not understand this interest in hiring or signing a contract with someone to do what most of the people involved are already doing, interacting with social media. Promoting Granite City through social media is not a complicated nor expensive process, and in my opinion does not require an outsourced contractor to be compensated for it. If it was absolutely necessary for an outside company to be involved, and the city had to enter into a contract for these services, shouldn't there be a bidding process in order to negotiate the most fiscally responsible contract possible? I have one last interesting question, why would the Economic Development Committee require "Closed Meeting Sessions"? And what would be the reason for the minutes for the closed sessions to be closed for six months? MOTION By Jackstadt, second by Simpson to place on file the Economic Development Committee Meeting # 1 & # 2 for March 1, 2016. ALL VOTED YES. Motion carried. MOTION By Jackstadt, second by Simpson to place on file the Closed Session-Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes and for them to remain closed for 6 months. ALL VOTED YES. Motion carried. This information is per the City's website. Just some food for thought. Or if someone has an accurate answer, I would like to know.
